Tour Highlights:

Table Mountain

Table Mountain is Cape Town's most famous landmark and one of the city's greatest attractions. There are over 100 scenic ways to climb the mountain, which stands at 1086 metres above sea level, but most people take the revolving cable car which whisks you to the top in a just a few minutes. The views in all directions are magnificent and the feeling of being on top of the world is what makes this such a popular destination.

Kirstenbosch Gardens

Kirstenbosch Gardens is a world famous botanical garden that is "breathtaking" and "outrageously beautiful" according to two guidebooks on South Africa. The gardens are nestled against the slopes of Table Mountain, which is part of what makes the setting so lovely. The slopes are very steep and rugged, creating an amazing backdrop to the gardens.

Birds of all sorts can be seen here, including brilliant green and red sugarbirds (which pollinate the flowers), owls, and guinea fowl. Kirstenbosch is a perfect place to stroll around admiring the plants and views or to lie on the grass in the sun. During the summer there are concerts held on Sundays on the lawns. Children run around on the grass, the sun is golden against the mountain, and there is nowhere better to have a picnic and enjoy an excellent glass of Cape wine...

Rhodes Memorial

Designed by Sir Herbert Baker and built in 1912 on the slopes of Devil's Peak , this memorial to Cecil John Rhodes resembles a Grecian temple. Eight bronze lions flank an imposing staircase and an equestrian statue. At the top, a bronze bust of Rhodes is inscribed with the word of his friend, Rudyard Kipling: "Living he was the land, and dead his soul shall be her soul".

Signal Hill

In clear view from Table Mountain lies Signal Hill. There are great views from the 350 metre (1148.2 feet) summit of Signal Hill as well. Signal Hill, which lies between Sea Point and the City Bowl, derived its name from practical purposes. Flags were hoisted from Signal Hill to warn residents of approaching ships. The road that climbs the slopes of Lion's Head runs past the domed kramat (tomb) of a much revered Muslim holy man, and leads to the summit of Signal Hill. There is a picnic site near the tomb. After dark, from a vantage point just above the tomb, the view of the lights of the city is unforgettable. The sight is even better over weekends, and every night between December and April Table Mountain is floodlit.
