City Tour

Half Day

On foot (weather permitting) we will walk you through a town filled with culture, colour and bustling side walk traders.

Places of Interest:

Castle of Good Hope

The Castle of Good Hope is the oldest building in South Africa. Today, the Castle is the only remaining VOC outpost of the old Dutch East Indian Company that is still managed and kept as a military base.  As the oldest building in South Africa, it is a symbol of the birth of Western civilization on the subcontinent. The castle was completed in 1679 with the aim of protecting the new settlement from possible attack.

A unique combination of history, fine wine, traditional food, military ceremonies and craftsmanship awaits you at this pentagonal fortification.

Company Gardens

One of Jan van Riebeeck's first tasks after coming ashore at Table Bay in April 1652, was to create a vegetable garden, one which would feed the Cape's first permanent European settlement. This humble patch of ground still flourishes today. It is today, of South Africa's most attractive and botanically most interesting city parks.

Museum

The South African Museum (SAM) was established by Lord Charles Somerset in 1825, and reconstituted under a Board of Trustees in 1855. It is the country's second oldest scientific institute, the Royal Observatory having been established five years earlier, in 1820. Its vast collections of natural history and anthropological objects document all forms of life, living and extinct, from southern Africa, and the material cultural heritage of our indigenous populations back to their earliest origins. A modern planetarium offers an opportunity of exploring the mysteries of the universe, and of understanding Planet Earth's humble position in relation to far-away stars and galaxies.
